VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- An artist is trying to figure out who vandalized a giant mural dedicated to the presidential race.
Ramona Austin came up with the idea for the mural that reads “Save America- Never Hillary”. The mural is located on a side of a closed down business Pungo, near the 1000 block of Princess Anne Road. The property owner allowed for the mural to be drawn.
"Whoever people vote for, we don't want it to be Hillary," said Austin.
It took a group of volunteers almost three weeks to complete the mural. Since then, it has caught the attention of many.
“People honk, they stop by to take pictures with the mural,” said Austin.
Although Donald Trump’s name is not mentioned on the mural, Austin says the idea had him in mind. On Tuesday, Austin says she received a text message that the mural was vandalized.
“It makes a vulgar comment about Mr. Trump,” described Austin.
The vandals also wrote “Don’t vote bad, **** them both”.
“That sat with me better than seeing a specific person's name, what upset me more was some of the other language because there are a lot of children that stop here and I didn't want them exposed to some of the other language," said Austin.
A group of volunteers quickly painted over the graffiti. Austin says she will maintain the mural until the end of the election season.
“Our freedom allows us to put this up there, however our laws don’t allow you to do what you did,” said Austin.
