VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach crime rates have decreased after using Flock technology, the city's police chief said.

Chief Neudigate reported violent crimes have decreased in the area and credits it to Flock technology.

Law enforcement is using license plate reader technology to help solve shootings, missing persons cases, armed robberies and more.

In a Virginia Beach City Council meeting on Tuesday, Chief Neudigate presented the crime statistics in front of council members and discussed the ordinance to accept and appropriate $80,000 from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services to the FY 2024-25 Police Department Operating Budget to purchase equipment to reduce violent crime.

“My team tells me that probably the single most influential piece of technology that we have are those Flock cameras," Police Chief Neudigate said. “They solve crimes, they're solving homicides, and we would ask to see if we can identify funding to increase the number of cameras that are out there."
