VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A fire at the Waterfront Apartments in Virginia Beach Wednesday evening has left multiple tenants without a home, officials said.
The blaze was reported at the apartment complex near Bayhead and Dory Drives shortly before 6 p.m. The Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) said heavy smoke and flames were coming from the second and third floors of the building when crews arrived.
The fire spread to the attic and impacted six apartment units, displacing an unknown number of tenants, officials said. The Red Cross will be helping the affected residents.
VBFD said no one was hurt in the fire. They updated that an unattended candle caused the fire
The blaze was brought under control by 6:30 p.m., officials reported. There's no word on what caused the fire.
Dominion Energy also responded to the scene.
