Rabid bobcat found in Virginia Beach

The bobcat was found after a person encountered it in the 2200 block of Stowe Road.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach Animal Services (VBAS) is reminding people to have their pets vaccinated after a bobcat tested positive for rabies in Virginia Beach.

The test results come after a person encountered the bobcat in the 2200 block of Stowe Road.

Health officials said human exposure to rabies happens when the saliva of an infected animal enters the body through an open wound or mucous membrane, such as an animal bite.

Rabies is 100% fatal if left untreated. VBAS said if anyone in your household, including pets, has had any exposure to stray or wild animals in the area contact your physician or the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health at 757-518-2700.
