Police: 71-year-old woman dies after crash on I-264

Virginia State Police say a car ran off the road into the drainage ditch and struck an embankment head-on. The 71-year-old driver died after the crash.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — State authorities say a woman died after her car crashed on I-264 Wednesday morning.

Troopers were sent to I-264 eastbound at First Colonial Road at 11:15 a.m. to respond to a single-vehicle crash at that location.

Investigators learned the car ran off the road into a drainage ditch and struck a concrete embankment head-on.

The driver of the car, 71-year-old Theresa Mae Hill, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, then died later in the day.

State Police are still working to learn if alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
