VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A person was rescued from a sinking sailboat off the coast of Virginia Beach on Wednesday, the Coast Guard Mid-Atlantic said on social media.
According to a Facebook post, the rescue happened 25 nautical miles east of False Cape thanks to crew members aboard the Cutter Sailfish, with support from the Coast Guard Station Little Creek and Virginia Beach Fire Department.
The Coast Guard responded after the sailboat's master made a distress call after losing steering and flooding from the rudder post.
"A life saved and a close call - and a sober reminder that the sea, while beautiful, is unpredictable and unforgiving," the Coast Guard wrote on Facebook.
