National Night Out is coming back to Hampton Roads on Aug. 6. It's a widespread event created to encourage positive relationships between law enforcement agencies and their communities.
Here's a breakdown of what's going on to celebrate across Hampton Roads, and where you can find free, fun events:
Norfolk
The city is celebrating at Five Points Park/Plaza at 6123 Sewells Point Road. People will be able to talk crime prevention with police, learn about resources in the community, and meet with community violence interrupters.
Virginia Beach
Neighborhoods across Virginia Beach will host events Tuesday night at more than two dozen different locations, including Level Green where there have been two homicides involving teenagers this year.
Suffolk
Suffolk is spacing out across the city with almost two dozen locations to celebrate. A send-off ceremony starts at 5 p.m. at City Council Chambers to kick off the night's fun.
Portsmouth
The city's celebration is at Festival Park, next to the Atlantic Union Bank Pavilion, from 3 to 8 p.m. The event will have food vendors, live music, a dunk tank, a car show, pet adoption and more.
Newport News
Newport News Police will kick off the night with a ceremony at 4 p.m. at headquarters before officers participate in different events.
Chesapeake
Chesapeake's National Night Out is slated to begin at 5 p.m. at Rivercrest Park at 701 River Walk Parkway.
Hampton
The Malvern NW Group will be hosting National Night Out from 6:30-8:30pm at 87-91 Apollo Drive.
And Coliseum Central is hosting the Neighborhood Night Out event on Tuesday, August 13 from 4-7pm at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, located at 1610 Coliseum Drive. It will include kids games and activities, a Red Cross blood drive, and more.
