VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — UPDATE: Shooting victims as identified as two teens, a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy.
A man and a girl were both shot near Mount Trashmore Park's Summer Carnival on Saturday night, Virginia Beach police said. The girl has died from her injuries.
The shooting was reported just after 8:30 p.m. Police said it did not happen at the carnival itself, but was close enough that emergency and police units were able to arrive quickly and render aid. Both shooting victims were taken to the hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead.
Police described the shooting as a "chaotic scene." Officers are working to direct traffic and are in "the process of locating suspects."
The ages and names of the victims have not been released at this time, nor has any information been released on what may have led to the shooting.
Police tell 13News Now they are continuing to search for suspects and evidence, and it remains an active scene.
The Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival opened on Friday night and was scheduled to run until June 19. A spokesperson for the City of Virginia Beach confirmed the carnival would reopen Sunday "with an increased presence" of law enforcement at the scene, including Virginia Beach police, Sheriff deputies and private security.
"The safety and well-being of residents and visitors are top priorities," the statement reads. "We understand how the recent incident may have affected the community’s sense of security. Our commitment is to make sure everyone in our city feels safe and protected."
