More than 30 people displaced after two-alarm fire at Indian Lakes Apartments in Virginia Beach

Fire officials said 22 adults and nine children were displaced. No one was injured.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — About 16 units were heavily damaged from a fire at Indian Lakes Apartments in Virginia Beach overnight.

Virginia Beach Fire Department received that call around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 5300 block of Maize Drive.

Fire crews could see heavy fire coming from the roof of the two-story apartment building.

The heavy fire spread to the attics causing damage to 16 units.

Fire officials said 22 adults and nine children were displaced. No one was injured.

Residents could hear smoke alarms going off and immediately began knocking on neighbors' doors to make sure they evacuated safely.

The Red Cross is helping residents displaced by the fire.

The fire was under control just before 1 a.m. It's believed to be "accidental in nature," according to fire investigators.
