VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A man is still in critical condition after he was shot on Pillar Court in Virginia Beach three weeks ago, police confirmed Friday.

Virginia Beach police responded to an area near 500 Pillar Court around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 13. There, they found a 34-year-old man with gunshot injuries.

The police department said the incident started out as a noise complaint involving two men from a local flooring company. Once a third man arrived on scene, a fight broke out, and they struggled over a handgun. Police said at one point, one of the men shot the gun, striking one of the men.

The original two men from the flooring company stayed on scene after the shooting, and cooperated with police. The man who was shot was brought to the hospital, where he's still being treated.

According to the police department, the existing evidence indicates the man who fired the gun was using "justified force to defend himself."

There are no criminal judges yet, but the case remains open and is being investigated.
