Law Enforcement Torch Run comes to Virginia Beach

Law enforcement laced up to run alongside athletes with the Virginia Special Olympics.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Law enforcement, Virginia Beach and Norfolk laced up for a good cause Wednesday morning and ran alongside athletes with the Virginia Special Olympics for the annual Torch Run.

The Torch run started at the Norfolk City Line and will make its way to Richmond this weekend for the Special Olympics State Games.

" It feels amazing. I get to do it with my friends from the Special Olympics," a runner said.

Law enforcement officers joined the run in support.

"What it means to me is people participating in this event, that we have a ton of people in our community that care about, you know, uh, those that have intellectual disabilities or other disabilities. That brings awareness to those folks," a police officer said.

The torch run covers nearly 2000 miles over eight days.

More than 2000 law enforcement officers from across Virginia take part each year.
