Parents and residents should be advised that the Kids Cove at Mount Trashmore will be closed for maintenance beginning Monday, July 8.
The closure will be for much needed resurfacing of the area and will take up to three weeks, weather permitting, city officials said.
The swings and climber areas will remain open during that time but the surfaced area of the enclosure will be closed.
Mount Trashmore will remain open and other park-related activities outside of Kids Cove will remain unaffected by this closure.
City officials addressed concerns from the public about the timing of the closure in a Facebook comment.
“The pour-in-place material that is being resurfaced cannot be applied during cold winter months. We also have to coordinate this work with our contractor’s current schedule. This was the best option overall.”
Officials said d there is another play-system off Edwin Drive as well as over 200 parks across Virginia Beach that they encourage everyone to visit.
