The doors opened in 1997 and will close for the last time at 8:45 p.m. on February 20.
The city says you can go in and sign the graffiti wall to leave your memories about time spent there until the doors close.
Demolition is set to begin in the Spring and construction on the new 79,457-square-foot facility is scheduled for July 2015.
It will have an indoor pool, fitness area, double gymnasium, therapeutic recreation program space, two youth activity rooms, three early childhood program classrooms, five multipurpose rooms and Improved parking and pedestrian access.
People who use Kempsville rec now can go to Williams Farm Recreation Center and/or the new Bow Creek Community Recreation Center, which is due to open in late March. Both are about five miles from the Kempsville site.
Officials say the new Kempville center should open in early 2017.
