VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A boy is in the hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by a dog in Virginia Beach Wednesday, police say.
According to the Virginia Beach Police Department, the boy was attacked by a pit bull in the 5200 block of Richard Road right after 3:30 p.m.
While helping the boy, police were reportedly confronted by the dog and "euthanized it." 13News Now asked for clarification, and VBPD confirmed the dog was shot.
An update from VBPD on March 16 explained that the dog had been accidentally let out of the house by a visitor, and that the attack was not intentional.
The owner of the dog, 33-year-old Danielle Hughes, has been charged with misdemeanor Dog at Large, Expired Rabies Vaccine, and Expired City License.
An update on the boy is not known at this time.
