IUD Express Tour comes to Virginia Beach

The awareness campaign touts the importance of protecting the right to contraception and explores advocacy strategies to uphold reproductive rights.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — If you saw a giant inflatable IUD at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Tuesday, your eyes did not deceive you.

The IUD Express erected the 20-foot IUD at 24th Street Park, symbolizing the fight for contraception.

Through its multi-city tour, the advocacy group Americans for Contraception touts the importance of protecting the right to contraception and explores advocacy strategies to uphold reproductive rights.

The goal is to raise awareness for contraceptives after Republicans blocked the passage of the "Right to Contraception Act" in the U.S. Senate earlier this year. Governor Glenn Youngkin also recently vetoed a similar bill in Virginia.

Both measures would have codified the right to birth control pills, IUDs, and other contraceptives.

The tour has already made stops in other cities, including Washington D.C., Miami, and Nashville. It will host its next event in Richmond on July 17.
