VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A high speed pursuit has ended in a crash right at the gate of Dam Neck Annex at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach.
The main gate at the naval base is currently closed to all traffic until further notice. Traffic is being diverted off the base only by going out the rear gate onto Sandbridge Road.
According to police the officers were led on the high speed chase by a female driver after responding to a call of a hit and run crash, involving two vehicles, near Pacific Ave. and Norfolk Ave. just after 2 p.m. Monday.
The woman was driving a white Mercedes and fled the scene without stopping to check on any injuries or damage.
Less than half an hour later, officers saw a white Mercedes near General Booth Blvd. and Prosperity Rd. speeding with a flat tire, forcing other drivers off the highway. The officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the woman refused and speed off, causing the high-speed pursuit.
The woman turned east onto Dam Neck Rd. before crashing into another car that was already on base. The suspect was taken to the hospital but there is no word on the extent of her injuries. The police officers, and the other driver, were not injured.
No word on what charges the driver may be facing.
Witness says it looks like 2 other cars behind the gate are also involved in the crash. Working to learn more. @13NewsNow
