Meeting planned for victims still recovering from 2023 Great Neck tornado in Virginia Beach

Hundreds of homes were damaged by the EF-3 tornado on April 30, 2023. Records indicate this is the strongest tornado to hit the City of Virginia Beach.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia state Senator Bill DeSteph and the Commonwealth's Commissioner of Insurance, Scott White, will hold a meeting Wednesday focusing on the latest recovery efforts, more than a year after a tornado tore through the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach.

Hundreds of homes were damaged by the EF-3 tornado on April 30, 2023. Records indicate this is the strongest tornado to hit the City of Virginia Beach and, according to the NOAA, the first twister in the city to ever reach EF-3 strength.

DeSteph plans to focus on those affected by the disaster in this meeting. 

It will be at the Great Neck Recreation Center on Wednesday, August 21 with two blocks of time set aside: from 5:30 to 6:30 will be to address the victims of the Great Neck tornado, and from 6:30 to 7:30 general comments, inquiries, and concerns can be shared with the commissioner.
