VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A grease fire displaced two adults from their Virginia Beach townhome on Sunday.

The fire was reported at 5:26 p.m. in the 570 block of Chancery Lane, according to a Virginia Beach Fire Department post on X. Crews arrived at 5:31 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the two-story townhome. The fire was marked under control at 5:35 and out at 5:40.

The fire was determined to be an accidental grease fire that extended into the cabinets and ceiling, the post stated. Two adult males were displaced, and one was treated on scene for smoke inhalation. There were no other injuries to civilians, firefighters or pets.

With Thanksgiving approaching, the fire department reminds everyone to "stand by your pan." Kitchen fires and unattended cooking are the top cause of home fires and injuries, especially on Thanksgiving.
