'Get Lost' in sweet flavors of Hawaiian shave ice at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront

Though they've been working through the "slow months" at the Oceanfront, the owners say their business is getting a lot of love.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Editor's note: This story is a part of our "Friday Flavor" series.

Get Lost Shave Ice opened in Virginia Beach in October of 2023. While they've been working through the "slow months" at the Oceanfront, owners Stephanie and Todd Askins say their business is getting a lot of love.

The couple decided to open this business after their honeymoon in Hawaii.

"I am a dessert fanatic by nature, and I was just obsessed immediately with shave ice," Stephanie said.

When they returned from their trip, the Askins said they searched for a local spot that served the same dessert style, but they had no luck. That's when they thought they might have something. So, they started a business venture to open their own shave ice location.

"We're right here in the vibe, so there's a lot of restaurants, so a lot of people come after dinner and get dessert," Todd said.

Their desserts are awesome.

"So, there's a scoop of ice cream at the bottom of the bowl, fresh shaved ice with syrups and toppings on top of that," Stephanie said.

The flavor combos are endless. You can build your own or choose one of their specials or classics. Their most popular option is probably the "Chill."

"That is going to be a blueberry lavender syrup that is made from scratch," Stephanie explained. "Then, there is vanilla syrup and vanilla ice cream on the bottom, and then the sweet and condensed mixture on top of that. Definitely add the whipped cream."

Calling all coffee lovers, the "Mug Life" is for you, "That is a homemade coffee syrup, it's a cold brew coffee syrup, has vanilla ice cream on the bottom, snow cap on top, caramel drizzle on top, and then it has a cinnamon toast crunch dusting on top," Stephanie said.

And if you have allergies or restrictions, you aren't restricted at Get Lost.

"We do have dairy-free vegan ice cream, we have dairy-free vegan sno cap and dairy-free vegan whipped cream, so you're not sacrificing any of the flavors if you are dairy-free or vegan," Stephanie said.

So, there is no excuse not to come to get lost at Get Lost Shave Ice in Virginia Beach. They are located at 510 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451.
