VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Just after 4 p.m., the Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) was called to South Birdneck Road and Jensen Drive for a report of an active gas leak.
The fire department closed down about three blocks of South Birdneck Road, from Burford Avenue to Beautiful Street. Virginia Natural Gas was on scene working to secure the gas leak.
At 8:50 p.m. Friday, VBFD said the northbound lanes of South Birdneck Road were reopened, and one southbound land will be reopening shortly.
The fire department said that there were no evacuations needed and no injuries yet reported.
