Gabby Douglas returns home to Virginia Beach

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and Virginia Beach native Gabby Douglas returned home to Hampton Roads Thursday night, greeted by cheering fans and showered with praise.

NORFOLK -- Two-time Olympic gold medalist and Virginia Beach native Gabby Douglas returned home to Hampton Roads Thursday night, greeted by cheering fans and showered with praise.

'It feels amazing and all this support and love and prayers means so much to me,' said Gabby on returning home.

She was then off to her welcome home party, which turned into a pep rally as dozens poured in to see and cheer for her.

Gabby's sisters were thrilled to have her home.

'It just feels so amazing and we're just so proud of her and when she won we didn't expect that now we're going to have to do media and everybody is going to go crazy when she's with us, so it's been kind of a rollercoaster,' said her sister Joy.

Among guests at Gabby's party was another Hampton Roads Olympian, 2008 gold medalist sprinter LaShawn Merritt.

Gabby isn't home for long. She leaves for Iowa Friday for an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
