First weekend of May residents can begin picking strawberries across Hampton Roads

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., (WVEC) -- Virginia farmers' strawberry harvest is expected to be on track this year.

May 5 and 6 is anticipated to be the first weekend residents can pick their own strawberries at farms in the area, Elaine Lidholm, Director of Communications at Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, said.

Lidholm said as always with agriculture that date depends on the weather. She also suggests calling farms ahead of time.
