VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Large smoke plumes filled the sky as a fire ignited at a Virginia Beach business early Monday morning, injuring one firefighter.
The businesses near the corner of Holland Road and Lynnhaven Parkway were closed when the blaze started at around 5:37 a.m., according to the Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD).
Crews doused the blaze, marking it under control shortly before 7:10 a.m.
The fire partially spread, however, resulting in two businesses being impacted. VBFD has not shared how significant the damage is to either business.
Photos of the scene show flames coming from the roof of a business surrounded by a thick cloud of smoke. The fire appears to have burnt through part of the roof, leaving a large hole.
VBFD said a firefighter was taken to Sentara Princess Anne Hospital for a minor injury to the leg, and has now been released.
Investigators are working to determine where the fire started and how.
