VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — No injuries were reported because of a commercial fire in Virginia Beach Thursday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 4 p.m. at the Pembroke Crossings Shoppes, according to a Virginia Beach Fire Department spokeswoman. That's in the Bayside Borough part of the city.
Fire and smoke were coming from the rooftop of a strip mall, when firefighters arrived at the scene. They determined the fire had started outside the front of a vacant storefront and traveled up a column and then onto the rooftop.
Crews were able to extinguish the flames by 5 p.m.
No one was hurt and no other businesses were affected.
Firefighters still aren't sure what caused the fire. It remains under investigation, the VBFD spokeswoman said.
