VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A person has died after trying to get into Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach early Sunday morning.
According to Navy officials, a vehicle tried to enter the base through Gate 5 at high speed around 3:40 a.m. The driver did not stop for security as required.
Security personnel activated the hydraulic access control system (HACS) to stop the vehicle. The vehicle crashed into the HACS barrier and caught fire. The base fire department responded and extinguished the fire.
The driver is deceased. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is looking into the incident.
