Family still left with questions, months after missing man was found dead in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach Police say they found Demetri Logan's body in an “advanced stage of decay” near a 7-Eleven on Baker Road, months after his disappearance.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — It’s been one year since Demetri Logan, 31, went missing out of Portsmouth and eight months since investigators discovered his body in Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach Police say they found his body in an “advanced stage of decay” near a 7-Eleven on Baker Road in February. Logan’s family still doesn’t have answers about what happened to him. One year later, they’re pleading for closure in the case.

Latanya Logan said she last heard from her son over the phone. “Demetri and I talked every single day,” she told 13News Now on Wednesday.

Latanya said she knew something was wrong when her son stopped picking up her phone calls.

“You want to keep the faith,” she said. “But me as a mom, I just knew, I knew something wasn’t right.”

Police said Demetri was reported missing out of Portsmouth on October 12. Months passed before the Logan family found out what happened to him. Latanya said she was driving when police called her with the news his body had been found.

“I couldn’t keep going, we had to pull off the road. That was like the worst day ever. It was like being punched in the chest.”

Demetri's death is still under investigation and VBPD said investigators are still actively working on the case. Logan’s aunt, JoEllen Logan-McGee, said she wanted to visit the area after hearing the news of his death.

“I just wanted to see with my own eyes, I wanted to see with my own eyes where the tragedy took place,” Logan-McGee told 13News Now.

As the family members await answers, they vow to keep their loved one’s memory alive.

“He was somebody special, we miss him,” Logan-McGee said. Latanya added, “Demetri was a sweetheart, he was a family guy. He would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.”

A VBPD spokesperson told 13News Now: “We understand that the family is looking for answers, and our detectives are continuing to follow up on leads and pursue all available avenues to bring resolution to this case. The department remains committed to ensuring thorough and diligent efforts in all investigations, regardless of how much time has passed.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact VBPD or go to the Virginia Beach Crime Solvers page to submit a tip.
