VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Former state Delegate Ron Villanueva is hoping to arrange a plea agreement later this month in connection with allegations of improperly helping two Virginia Beach companies secure special government contracts.
Villanueva faces several federal charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, falsification of records, and aiding false written statements
Federal authorities accused Villanueva of defrauding the government using a program that awards government contracts to businesses owned by women and minorities.
Right now we don't know what charges are involved in the proposed plea deal. He previously pleaded not guilty to all charges back in January.
A plea hearing is scheduled for March 19.
Villanueva served as a Republican for the 21st District in the House of Delegates from 2010 to 2018. Before that, he was a member of Virginia Beach's city council.
