VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Brett Shepler, an Eagle Scout candidate, is going out of his way to help families affected by devastating house fires.
Shepler, 17, has put together 50 'burn out bags', which he will be donating to the Oceana Volunteer Fire Department on Thursday, July 6.
The 'burn out bags' are actually duffle bags filled with a number of personal hygiene items and other things that help people recover after house fires.
As an Eagle Scout hopeful, Shepler is required to develop and perform a community service project. He has been working on the burn out bags for months.
Right now, the Oceana Volunteer Fire Department only has two burn out bags left. Volunteer Fire Chief Wayne Richardson is expected to be on hand to thank Shepler for his donation, as well as explain the impact it will have.
