Drivers swerve after tree hits power line

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Some of the storm damage is creating a dangerous situation for Virginia Beach drivers.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Some of the storm damage is creating a dangerous situation for Virginia Beach drivers.

The problem is on Indian River Road, near Pungo. A tree has come down on a power line in that area and as people are trying dangerous maneuvers to avoid it, it's already led to at least one crash.

The tree hanging over the power line is fairly easy to see in daylight, but there are no street lights on this narrow road, and last night drivers had difficulty seeing the obstacle.

A witness who didn't want to be identified told us a man driving a pickup truck didn't see the tree until it was too late.

13News Now is waiting to hear from police on his condition.

Dominion Power crews are working around the clock to clean up the mess. Restoring power to hospitals and fire departments are priorities before crews can get to the neighborhoods.
