VIRGINIA BEACH -- A crane that toppled over in Virginia Beach Monday afternoon will be hauled away, city officials said Tuesday.

The crane operator was moving a piece of material used to build the new Lesner Bridge when the accident occurred. The crane rolled toward Chesapeake Bay and the boom of the crane is in the water.

Emergency crews responded to the incident around 1:30 p.m. Nobody was injured.

"There have been no reported spills or discharges of hazardous materials from this incident. McLean Contracting (the crane'​s owner) is currently investigating the cause of this accident," city officials said on their website.

The new six-lane span will be structurally sound and better for traffic for the more than 41,000 cars and truck that use the bridge every day. The new bridge is expected to be completed in 2017.
