Cox High School sends letter to parents about toy gun at school

Frank W. Cox High School

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Parents of Cox High School students received a letter citing reports that a student brought a weapon to school Wednesday.

Administrators divulged in the letter below that the reported weapon was actually a toy gun and that disciplinary action was taken.

Good evening, this is Dr. Randi Riesbeck, principal of Cox High School.

I am calling you this afternoon because earlier today students went to teachers and members of our administrative team with concerns a fellow classmate had brought a weapon to school. Staff immediately intervened and found there was a toy gun on the student.

I first want to remind our students that weapons of any kind – even toys - are not allowed on school grounds and having one can result in serious consequences. In this case, appropriate disciplinary action was taken immediately.

Secondly, I would like to applaud our students who reported this matter. They brought their concerns directly to staff, which allowed us to handle the situation efficiently and without incident. Thank you for sharing this example with your student tonight and for your continued support of Cox High School.
