VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- There's a push by two council members to rescind a request for a grant to fund the Atlantic Ave Reconfiguration Project.
On Tuesday, Councilman John Moss and Councilwoman Jessica Abbott will present a resolution to rescind the city's request for state funding for the project.
"Wasting precious taxpayer-funded resources," Abbot wrote on Facebook. "On Creating a cul-de-sac for the benefit of a private development is poor policy."
A few weeks ago Deputy City Manager Tom Leahy told 13News Now the city was waiting to find out if the grant Virginia Beach requested was received. The grant would be used to turn Atlantic Ave at 40th Street into a cul-de-sac. The plan is also to add new traffic lights and patterns in the area.
This proposal was requested by the developer Cavalier Associates to accommodate new development in the area. However, the project would cost nearly $2.5 million.
Leahy said if the new resolution were to pass, staff would proceed pursuant to the direction in the new resolution.
