VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The votes are in, and the winner is...the colorful octopuses enjoying pizza and ice cream mural called 'Prismatic Play'!
The new artwork will be added to the Oceanfront's Rudee Loop. The mural idea was submitted by Norfolk artist, Aimee Bruce. Bruce also created the colorful stairway mural at Mount Trashmore.
Bruce’s “Prismatic Play” was one of four designs that made the cut by the Public Art Selection Committee to move onto the online public vote. The vote took place from May 17 to May 27, 2019.
Over 4,500 people voted, and Bruce received 45 percent of the votes. The remaining votes were closely split by the runners up.
The site of the new mural is adjacent to the Rudee Loop area, which has a highly visible walk/bike path and serves as a welcoming space for visitors, residents, and families. The murals will be created this summer on the outside walls that surround the lot of the old Oceanside Inn, a hotel that was demolished in 2017.
