Child among 5 forced out of Virginia Beach home after blaze

All occupants safely evacuated, according to the Virginia Beach Fire Department.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Five people, including a child, and four pets are without a home after a kitchen fire sparked inside the residence in Virginia Beach's Foxfire Subdivision Sunday evening, officials said.

The fire was reported at a two-story house in the vicinity of Bernadotte Court and Bernadotte Street just before 5:50 p.m. Heavy smoke was coming from the first floor of the home when the Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD) arrived at the scene.

All occupants, including the family's two dogs and two cats, safely evacuated, officials said. No one was reported injured in the incident.

Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen and was accidental.
