VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A 47-year-old Chesapeake man was killed when he struck a concrete drainage system off Interstate 64 in Virginia Beach early Sunday morning, Virginia State Police (VSP) said.
Kenneth Monroe was heading west on the interstate, just east of Indian River, at around 6:35 a.m. when the crash happened. VSP said Monroe veered off the roadway and into a grassy median before striking the drainage system, resulting in fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Monroe was not wearing a seat belt. No other occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities reporting neither alcohol nor speed contributed to the crash.
