VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel toll rates are increasing starting January 1st.
In the new year, the price of the toll will jump from $18 to $21. The hike was approved by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Commission earlier this month.
The price to return within 24 hours with an E-ZPass will remain the same at $6 during the off-season and $1 during peak season.
While the toll seems costly, it is the cheapest mile rate in the region costing 70 cents per mile.
There will be a public information session on December 14, 4 to 6 p.m. at the Eastern Shore Welcome Center to talk more about the toll rate and provide a general overview of the tunnel project.
