VIRGINIA BEACH -- Demolition began Monday at the Cavalier Oceanfront Hotel.
It's expected to take several weeks to raze the 11-story hotel.
The work is part of a larger project to restore much of the Cavalier property.
A Marriott hotel will be built on the site, according to Gold Key | PHR Hotels & Resorts.
The Cavalier was built in 1973 as a companion to the Cavalier on the Hill.
