VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach school officials say a student is facing disciplinary action after a threat was made Wednesday at Brookwood Elementary School.
A spokesperson with Virginia Beach City Public Schools said a statement went out to Brookwood families that read, in part, "We had a student make a threatening statement to cause harm to our school."
Authorities conducted a search and no weapon was found, and the student who made the threat will face disciplinary action.
"We ask you to take this opportunity to speak with your child about the appropriate ways to express frustration or emotions," the statement went on to say. "Comments, even intended as a joke, can lead to serious consequences including disciplinary action and potential criminal charges."
Students were also urged that if they ever hear something concerning to immediately report it to the police or an adult.
