Agave plant stands 2 stories high in Virginia Beach

The agave americana plant stands around 20 feet high; this bloom is a rare occurrence!

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — In Virginia Beach, a two-story-tall plant is turning heads on Dam Neck Road.

The agave americana plant stands around 20 feet high; this bloom is a rare occurrence!

It belongs to the asparagus family, so the stock looks similar to the speared vegetable.

This plant has a unique bloom cycle. It takes up to 10 to 30 years to bloom.

The bloom is open to the public for viewing at Dam Neck Road and Landstown Centre Way. However, visitors are advised not to touch the plant because it has large thorny spikes that can hurt.
