VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach Fire Department says smoke alarms it installed during a community-wide smoke alarm install event last year may have saved a local family from a fire.
Three people, including a child, were displaced after the mobile home fire late Saturday.
The Virginia Beach Fire Department responded to the call at 10:44 p.m. in the Colony Mobile Home Park. They arrived at 10:50 to find light smoke coming from the back of the mobile home.
The fire was marked out at 11:15 p.m.
All of the occupants – two adults, one child and a dog – were able to evacuate the trailer safely due to being alerted by smoke alarms previously installed by the fire department and the American Red Cross during the event last June.
The occupants were displaced, however, and are being assisted with temporary housing by the Red Cross.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.
