20-year-old arrested in deadly Virginia Beach shooting

Brian James II was charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A 20-year-old man was arrested after a shooting at the Atlantis Apartment complex left another man dead in Virginia Beach, police said.

Brian James II was charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The shooting happened in the early morning hours of June 29. The call came in shortly after 3 a.m.

The police department identified the victim as Jesus Alfredo Jeronimo Can, 24, who was pronounced dead where the shooting happened.

According to police, investigators identified James as the suspect within less than 24 hours of the shooting. He was arrested at 9 p.m. on June 29.
