VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Three people have now been arrested in connection to a Virginia Beach car crash that was later ruled a possible homicide, according to police.

On January 11, a car crashed into an apartment building near Spring and Featherstone Courts, which are between the Newtown and Town Center areas of Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Beach Police Department identified the driver as Gregory James Smith Jr., a 33-year-old man from Newport News. He died at the scene of the crash.

Responders were helping him when they noticed a possible gunshot wound, but the Medical Examiner's Office hasn't yet released the exact cause of his death.

While Smith was being treated, the vehicle caught on fire, which spread to the building. Police didn't say where Smith was being treated at the time.

Soon after, Naji Amir Johnson, 18, of Virginia Beach was charged with felony murder, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and motor vehicle theft.

A 17-year-old boy was also arrested and charged at that time with felony murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

On February 15, a third person was arrested in connection to the crash. A 14-year-old boy now faces charges of felony murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The names of the 17-year-old and 14-year-old have not been released due to their age.
