Parents of boy hit by stray bullet presented with $12,000 check

An eight-year-old boy was hit in the head by a stray bullet inside his home on Peele Court.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Tonight marks two weeks since an eight-year-old boy got hit in the head by a stray bullet in Virginia Beach.

Since the shooting, the community has been rallying around Landyn and his family. Many local businesses have been holding fundraisers to help with their medical bills and tonight, one of them presented his parents with a check worth 12 thousand dollars!

Landyn Davis was inside his home on Peele Court playing video games when someone opened fire outside and hit him. He was placed in a medically induced coma but is now off a ventilator and making progress in his recovery.

First responders rushed Landyn to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, where he was put into a coma. On Monday, the boy opened his eyes, and according to a family friend, a CT scan showed his brain was stable.

Virginia Beach police detectives hope a hefty cash incentive can help them find the shooter or shooters in Landyn's case.

Members of Virginia Beach Crime Solvers raised the reward for information leading to an arrest to a max of $5,000.
