Train in Suffolk hits unoccupied vehicle on tracks

The vehicle had been abandoned by its driver.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A train hit an unoccupied vehicle early Sunday morning near the area of Beech Street in Suffolk.

The crash happened around 1:20 a.m., according to Suffolk Police Department spokeswoman Mandy Bartholomew. She stated the vehicle had been abandoned by its driver and was not at a railroad crossing.

Norfolk Southern railroad officials responded, and the train was able to continue after about three hours. There were no injuries.
