Suffolk's Grand Illumination Ceremony returns to kick off the holiday season

It's happening in Suffolk's Market Park, next to the Seaboard Station Railroad Museum. A 32-foot evergreen tree will come to life, ringing in the festivity.

SUFFOLK, Va. — Get ready to kick off the holiday season with Suffolk. The city's Grand Illumination Ceremony is lighting up the neighborhood this Friday. 

The holiday celebration is happening in Downtown Suffolk's Market Park, right next to the Seaboard Station Railroad Museum. There, a 32-foot evergreen tree will come to life, ringing in the festivity. 

That's not all the action. There will also be seasonal music, horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday-themed craft activities, and a chance to share Christmas wishes with Santa Claus; don't miss as he arrives in style. 

The park will open up to visitors at 6 p.m., and festivities will run until 8 p.m. 

The Grand Illumination is just the beginning of several of holiday happenings in Suffolk. 

On November 24, people can look forward to a drive through the Festival of Lights display at Sleepy Hole park. It will be open from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on the following days: 

  • Friday to Sunday, November 24-26
  • Friday to Sunday, November 24-26
  • Thursday to Sunday, November 30-December 3
  • Daily, December 7-25
  • Thursday to Sunday, December 28-31

On December 9, don't miss Suffolk's Holiday Parade. The city says this year's theme is Winter Wonderland. For businesses looking to participate, however, the application deadline has already passed.
