Suffolk police officer awarded 'Top Cop'

The Suffolk Police Department's Top Cop is the 3rd officer with the highest arrests in the Hampton Roads area!

Clifton E. Sessoms, Jr., a Suffolk Police Officer, was awarded the Suffolk Police Department’s Top Cop at the 18th Annual Greater Hampton Roads Regional Crime Lines Inc. Dinner & Top Cop Awards held in Virginia Beach over the weekend.

Sessoms nomination letter highlighted his outstanding work ethic. The Top Cop is assigned to the Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Task Force Unit that is grant funded by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. Sessoms is one of only three Drug Recognition Experts in the area.

According to the Suffolk Police Department, Sessoms is the 3rd officer with the highest arrests in the Hampton Roads area. He is behind two Virginia Beach officers.

In 2017, Officer Sessoms conducted 196 Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFST) resulting in 70 DUI arrests, 61 Open Container of Alcohol violations, 33 Refusal to Submit Breath/Alcohol Test violations and 4 Underage Drinking violations. He assisted Street Patrol Officers with 14 DUI arrests and provided 25 Drug Recognition Evaluations to assist other Officers in Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID) arrests.
