SUFFOLK, Va. — Law enforcement and emergency services personnel in Suffolk will prepare for major shooting incidents during a training on Thursday.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue, the Suffolk Police Department, Sentara Belleharbour Hospital and Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View will participate in the multi-agency exercise.

The training will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Lockheed Martin Center for Innovation on Harbour View Boulevard.

Through Thursday's simulation, officials say officers and first responders will collaborate to proactively prepare for possible active shooter incidents. The exercise aims to "ensure a coordinated, timely, and effective response and recovery in the event of a major incident."

"Significant law enforcement and fire department officials will be present during the exercise," a city spokesperson said. "In order to avoid any confusion, the public is notified ahead of time. The exercise is closed to the general public."
