Family displaced by Suffolk fire

SUFFOLK, Va. — Four people including a child and many pets have been displaced by a fire in Suffolk. 

Suffolk Fire & Rescue says that they responded to the 8200th block of Harlan Drive for a report of a fire around 4:05 a.m. 

The crews arrived at 4:15 a.m. and found a fire in the kitchen of the single-story home.

They attacked the fire while other crews searched the home. The fire was contained the kitchen which suffered moderate fire damage. The entire home had heavy smoke damage. Several dogs were rescued from the fire. One bird died. The fire was placed under control at 4:25 a.m.

The fire has displaced three people and one minor. The American Red Cross is assisting them. 

The Fire Marshal's Office investigation found that the cause of the fire was accidental from attended cooking.
