SUFFOLK, Va. — A Burger King in Suffolk was forced to evacuate Sunday afternoon when officials say a deep fryer caught fire.
The blaze was reported at the business on North Main Street near Holly Lane Parkway at around 12:17 p.m.
As Suffolk Fire & Rescue arrived, black smoke was coming from the restaurant, pushing customers and employees out. Fire crews searched the business and determined everyone had evacuated safely, officials said.
Firefighters worked the roof and attic areas as the blaze spread to the ventilation system of the deep fryers.
The blaze was contained to the kitchen and brought under control just before 12:30 p.m., according to Suffolk Fire & Rescue. No one was reported injured.
The restaurant remains closed at this time and there is currently no estimated time of reopening, officials said.
The initial investigation indicates the cause of the blaze is not suspicious. Investigators, however, are still working to determine what exactly prompted the fire.
