Suffolk man accused of arson, attempted murder taken into custody

SUFFOLK, Va. — A man accused of setting a Suffolk house on fire with people still inside has been arrested.

The City of Suffolk Fire Marshal's Office said 69-year-old Alfred Russell intentionally set fire to a home in the 6200 block of Leafwood Road on Monday.

No one was hurt.

Police said Russell was found and taken into custody in Portsmouth on Friday morning. He is facing charges of second-degree attempted murder, arson of an occupied dwelling, and destruction of property.
